Biography of Tito Puente!
Tito Puente Porn on April 20th, 1923 in New York City. He grew up in Spanish Harlem & at the age of 13 he became a musician. At a younger age he started of learning how to play the piano, then percussion, & the saxophone. As he got older he was called into the U.S navy to serve in the World War II.When he returned, in 1945 he went to study at the Julliard School. In 1948 he formed a band that later known as Tito Puente's Orchestra. He was known for his way of combining other rhythms and dances to Latin and Afro-Cuban Rhythms.
For his amazing and inspiring work he received many awards. Five Grammy Awards during his career, one in 1979, two Grammies 1980, & the last Grammy award in 1990. During his career he performed with many leading Jazz performers, including George Shearing and Woody Herman.
Making 100 Albums and creating more than 200 compositions, Tito Puente died on May 31st, 2000 waiting for heart Surgery. Tito Puente is known as the "King of Latin Jazz."
